Do I Qualify for Bariatric Surgery?
Understanding Your Weight Loss Options
While weight loss surgery can be incredibly effective for many individuals, not everyone is a good candidate. In order to qualify for bariatric surgery, you must meet certain criteria related to your BMI, amount of excess weight, obesity-related diseases, and more.
You may be a good candidate for weight loss surgery if you meet any of the following requirements:
- You have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or higher, with or without obesity-related health issues
- You have a BMI of 30 to 34.9 and at least one obesity-related issue, including but not limited to Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and more;
- You meet one of the above criteria and you have been unsuccessful in achieving/maintaining healthy weight loss through diet and exercise alone.
Please note: Qualifications may vary, depending on your insurance provider.
If you are not sure of your BMI, we invite you to use our BMI calculator to quickly find your number. If you have questions about the requirements for bariatric surgery or if you are still unsure whether or not you are a good candidate, feel free to reach out to our friendly, knowledgeable team!
